Yes. #WeAreAllInThisTogether. But, are We?

We are receiving emails from our employers with the headline “We are all in this together”. No offence to any organisation but I felt there is no empathy in those words. Yes, COVID funds have been set up and many employers are receiving calls from their management asking for the well-being which is much appreciated. But, more than anything, the need of the hour is being liberal on strict deadlines for the emotional wellbeing of an employee in this pandemic.

Situations around us are deplorable. Some calls being received from family and friends are distressing. Some are running pillar to post while some are staying active on social media, making calls all day and all this to seek COVID resources for their loved ones. Most of us are part of those ‘some’ I am referring to. Even if we are not infected these are the things that could be keeping us at bay when it comes to finishing a task on time. Not everything can be shared. Even if we are to ask for exemptions from meeting the deadline, we already lost count of such previous instances.

Another thing I would like to address in this context is insisting an employee to work post working hours which also applies to employees pushing themselves beyond working hours. We are currently living in unprecedented times and the future is bleak. It is our family and friends who need us more than anyone else. Spend time with your family and yourself at least till this pandemic gets better. If someone you know gets affected with covid, keep a check, talk and be of help in the best possible way you can.

And that is when we can say “WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER “ in a true sense.

STAY SAFE. :)
